Formative and Summative Assessment:
Review Fridays:
Each week in Kindergarten, we have review Fridays. The students review the alphabet with a hands on activity. This is great practice for their fine motor skills and informs me of their alphabet knowledge. In the picture, the kids are forming letters with playdoh. Another activity involves the use of Bingo Markers. The kids dab the shape of the letters by staying inside the circles. |
Early Literacy Assessment
At the beginning and end of each school year, Kindergarten students are tested for early literacy knowledge. This is a great assessment tool as it informs the teacher of the students strengths. I find it is amazing to see the progress the students make throughout the year :)

Peer Editing Checklist
I often use peer editing checklists in my classroom. It strengthens community building through the collaboration of peers. Students also become more attentive to the quality of their work. Rubrics Every assignment, I provide a rubric for my students so they are aware of my expectations. Occasionally, I like to provide a self marking rubric. They evaluate their work and attach it to the assignment. When I'm marking their work, I take their evaluation mark into consideration.
